Yokohama rewarded for its use of nutshells

The use of oil from cashew nut shells in the rubber compounds used to manufacture Yokohama tires has just been rewarded.

Cardolite Corp., a leading processor of cashew nut liquid products recently honored Yokohama with the  Mortimer T. Harvey award, 2010, in recognition of the use of liquid shell of cashew in their production.

Yokohama has been innovative in using by-products of cashew nuts for 20 years. They actually patented the technology in Japan in 1991 and in 1993 in the United States.

The rubber material in which the shell of cashew in integrated offers a low levels of rigidity prior to vulcanization, leaving the tire with a high elasticity which improves stability and drive.
