Thursday, May 28, 2009 Winter Tires in Summer Could Be Dangerous
According to CAA-Québec, driving with winter tires in summer could compromise safety on the road. CAA-Québec says that the tests it conducted last summer proved that all-season tires are safer in summer than winter tires. The biggest factor seems to be the stopping distance, which would be 30% longer with winter tires in summer. CAA-Québec fears that the mandatory winter tire use (in Quebec) during winter might convince some motorists to keep their winter tires in summer for budgetary reasons. CAA-Québec also thinks that some form of legislation should come out of this situation and is asking the Quebec Department of Transportation to act consequently. (ED)
