U.S. Plant Plans Pushed Back by Kumho

Pushed back once already due to the economic decline, Kumho Tire USA has now delayed construction of its planned U.S. plant until 2013.

Plans for the $225 million, 1.3 million sq. ft. passenger and light truck/SUV tire plant were announced in January 2008, but by mid-year the economy was heading to the bottom and Kumho opted to put off building the plant until conditions improved.

It seems that Kumho officials told Macon, GA officials that the company would honor its commitment to build the plant, and now plans to begin production at the Bibb County factory in the fourth quarter of 2013. To meet that date, county officials said, means actual construction would have to begin in 2012. (SB)
