Japanese manufacturer Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. recently received an award for technical development from the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan. Toyo won an award for developing a technology used in the increase of tire fuel efficiency while still improving braking power. Toyo worked with the Honda R&D Co. The technology was set on the development of a material that would increase energy loss but only on the outside of the tread helping to get 1.5% fuel economy while still retaining stopping power. The technology is now used on the Toyo Tranpath A20 tire used as standard equipment on the Honda Crossroad SUV available only in Japan (car shown with generic tires). (ED)
