Monday, June 29, 2009 Tires with fuel efficiency ratings?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued in mid-June its long-awaited proposal on labelling tires with fuel efficiency ratings. This proposal rule is a response to a provision within the Energy Independence and Security Act passed by the American Congress in December 2007. The NHTSA document is a proposed requirement asking for labelling tires with ratings for fuel efficiency under the rolling resistance label, durability under the treadwear label, and safety under the traction label. For now, the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) is still studying the NHTSA text. (ED)
