Monday, July 27, 2009 Tires Made From Trees
A study conducted by researchers at Oregon State University suggests that microcrystalline cellulose—a product that can be extracted from virtually any plant’s fibre—could partially replace silica as a reinforcing filler in tire manufacturing. This would result in significant cost reductions while bringing better performance and fuel efficiency in hot weather. More research is actually done to confirm the long-term durability of tires made with cellulose partially replacing silica. (EB)
