Monday, September 28, 2009 Sumitomo Celebrates Its 100th Anniversary With a New Tire Tech Centre
 Sumitomo Rubber Industries is 100 years old! The company was founded in October 1909 as a unit of the British Dunlop Rubber Co. To celebrate its 100th anniversary, Sumitomo has launched a new slogan: “Now, toward the next century” and opened a $56 million tire technical centre at its Kobe, Japan headquarters. The 86,000 sq. ft. six-story centre will be working very heavily in developing eco-friendly products. Officially opened on Sept. 17, the centre uses wind power, solar power and biomass as power sources. It even has a rooftop garden. (ED)
