Tuesday, August 09, 2011 Robert Vetter – There’s Rubber in His Blood
Talking to this industry veteran, you can sense the calibre of a renowned leader who established his career with an international giant, Bridgestone Canada. Having learnt the ropes at Firestone, he initially accepted a post at the production operations level. "My colleagues, who thought that I would pursue a sales career, were quite surprised. But I accepted this position to get a better understanding of the tire industry".
Friends and family are unanimous when it comes to his driving personality characteristic: his determination. His doggedness at the professional level is reflected by his resoluteness when faced with life’s challenges. In 2005, when Robert partially lost his eyesight, his son Chad confides, "My father reacted faster than us. He’s the one who consoled us…he prefers to turn the page, to deal with things as they are, to get on with his life and other pressing matters."
Robert Vetter met success at every stage of his career. He became the first Quebecker to fill the highest executive position at Bridgestone Canada: Canadian Chief Executive Officer.
He is proud of what he has achieved and also proud of how retailers (particularly those in Quebec) have managed to grow the tire industry. "Our retailers have gone from traditional 3-door garages into spacious, modern showrooms, exhibiting a thoroughly professional image to the consumer."
Robert Vetter, a high calibre leader with rubber in his blood.
