Michelin to equip NASA’s new Lunar Rover

French tire manufacturer Michelin, has developed a new wheel for NASA’s latest generation of lunar rover vehicles. Based on the company’s TWEEL ® assembly, the Michelin Lunar Wheel remains flexible and applies a constant ground pressure that will allow the vehicle to move through loose soil and craters. With its low mass and high payload, it’s 3.3 times more efficient than the original Apollo Lunar Rover wheels. A prototype of the Lunar vehicle that uses those «tires» was seen during the parade at Obama’s swearing-in.
