Kumho’s Concept Car and Adjustable Tread Tires

Believe it or not, this concept car called the Fortis is not from an international auto maker but from Korean tire maker Kumho. This is the kind of car the manufacturer sees in the future with four 100hp in-wheel electric motors with off-road traction, ESP, and hill descent while the motors will allow for 4WD, FWD, and RWD. But the real secret allows the driver to get the performance he wants with only one set of tires with metal biters in their tread that optimize off-road performance by clawing into the terrain. For on-road use, the tire cavity is inflated expanding the rubber areas of the tire to cover the metal biters. (ED)
