GEUMSAN, South Korea – Visiting journalists experienced an impressive display of the Hankook Ventus V12 EVO's grip and accuracy while riding shotgun with GT racer and Drifting Champion, Jang Joo Suk, in a highly modified Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Although the V12 EVO's UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grading) rating is high enough to qualify it as an ultra high performance tire, Hankook claims decent wear and longevity on the street.
Developed primarily as a high performance tire, the V12 EVO has a high-speed rating of 300 km/h, yet is quiet enough to be suitable for a sports sedan. Featuring Hankook's High Tg Polymer & Specific Resin (HPSR) compound, the directional tread combines three-dimensional profile blocks, notched shoulder ribs and a wide centre rib for powerful braking. Structurally, the V12 EVO consists of wide, high-tensile steel belts reinforced with jointless high-density nylon, and a hard rubber sidewall sandwiched between two rayon layers for more stability during hard cornering. Generally, a stiff sidewall transmits more road noise, but the V12 EVO's tread pattern has been "tuned" to help eliminate noise.
Distinctive Y-shaped lateral grooves channel water away from the tread, resisting hydroplaning and ensuring that the tire stays glued to the road during wet driving. Journalists were able to test these claims themselves on Hankook's wet-handling circuit: a winding, treacherous snake featuring a consistent water depth of 1 mm. The V12 EVO provided confident stopping and secure grip in the corners, making this tire a good choice for three-season driving.
