Tuesday, September 14, 2010 Goodyear tests its new winter tire...in Florida
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. showcased its new Ultra Grip Ice WRT in Florida recently. Fortunately, the Eglin Air Force Base had a test facility that was up to the challenge of demonstrating its benefits.
Thanks to 990 tons of refrigeration, the base's McKinley Climatic Laboratory can test tires on snow and ice. Tire dealers from the United States and Canada were on hand to learn about the tire, which will become Goodyear's winter power line next year.
The Ultra Grip Ice WRT is designed for SUV and light trucks. It is available in 16 sizes.
The WRT (for Winter Reactive Technology) is studdable. Goodyear says it competes against the Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V1, Blizzak DM-Z3 and Blizzak W965; and Toyo Observe Open Country G-02 Plus.
