Atlas Tire Wholesale Inc. Plans Major Move

Mississauga-based Atlas Tire Wholesale Inc. recently announced plans to move their head office and main distribution centre into a new 78,000 sq. ft. facility by the summer of 2011. Only a couple of blocks away from their current location, this new facility will increase the company’s footprint in the Greater Toronto Area to 100,000 square feet (78,000 in Mississauga and 22,000 in Scarborough).

The extra square footage will allow Atlas to increase inventory capacity to 120,000 + units of tires and wheels. “We’re not making this move because we took on a new product line, but because of our growth in the marketplace,” explains company president, Peter-James Gregory. “We are expanding our coverage of the market and our primary goal is to serve our clients better.”

Gregory says Atlas Tire’s clients will benefit from this expansion in a number of ways. “With the increased inventory capacity, we are going to have greater depth of inventory. This will help us counteract any product shortages that occur from time to time. Also, with our new highly-automated warehouse system, much like what we already have in our Scarborough facility, we’re going to be able to fill four orders in the same time we used to be able to fill only one. That will facilitate quicker order turnaround times.”

Six dock-level shipping doors along with 2 drive-in shipping doors will maximize efficiencies in shipping and receiving. “We’ll be able to both load and unload trucks more quickly, which in turn will make our whole operation more efficient, resulting in better service for our clients,” Gregory adds.

This new facility is the first major step in Atlas’ plan to expand coverage of the market. “Additional new strategically-located facilities will follow,” Gregory says.
