Wednesday, July 13, 2011 André Roberge - with a few twists and turns along the way.
One of our Hall of Fame honorees has had quite an interesting career path. André Roberge tells us that in high school, his teachers told him not to bother pursuing any advanced studies. Supposedly, he didn’t have what it takes to complete them.
No problem! André would eventually prove to his teachers and peers that he indeed has what it takes and overcame this hurdle. He ventured into working life at a very young age, starting his very first job at Ludger Gravel. Afterwards, he worked in construction in the US and finally ended up picking tobacco in Ontario.
In 1966, although planning to return to his studies, he landed a temporary job at Métivier. He loved his work so much that he never did make it back to school, a positive turn of events that, over several decades, evolved into a thriving career in our own industry.
Métivier really kick-started André Roberge’s career. “At Métivier, I learned everything there was to know. I took marketing classes and learned English, and I was promoted to Operations Manager and then, Marketing Manager,” says André.
When he left Métiver, he landed a senior position at CTR in Quebec City and afterwards, at Bridgestone. Eventually, he did leave the industry, thinking he would never go back. Once again, this proved to be a positive move for his career.
He was offered a job in retail, which eventually led him to establish his own company, Réchapage 2000. He’s been the President of the company for 15 years now.
What a great way to finish a career, a career that was full of surprises but proved to be an inspiring industry success story.
Congratulations to André Roberge, our distinguished Honoree.
