Alaska to Make Winter Tires Mandatory?

After the Province of Quebec, it looks like Alaska, the most northern American state, might make winter tires mandatory during the cold season. Such a bill is under consideration in the Alaska Legislature, according to many local newspapers. The bill, proposed by Rep. John Harris, R-Valdez, also includes studded tires that would be acceptable and, obviously, many specific brands approved by the Alaska Department of Public Safety. A special committee has heard the measure alongside a plan that would restrict the use of cell phones when driving. (ED)
