A Canadian SmartWay?

According to many reliable sources, Canada’s Natural Resources Canada (whici is similar to the U.S.’s EPA) is looking into the possibility of developing an all-Canadian fuel-efficiency labelling program for truck tires and truck components. Working with the Canadian Trucking Association and other organizations, the NRC is looking into fleets’ buying habits to develop an “Energy Star” type of tire recognition system, mostly to promote tires that have the lowest rolling resistance features. The main goal is to identify products that will reduce the trucking industry’s carbon footprint through better fuel efficiency. No implementation date has been announced but the NRC should complete its research by spring 2011. (ED)
