What’s crystal-clear about the Ram 2500 is its length, four doors and long cargo box, its length from bumper to bumper being very impressive. Its two-tone paint and side steps give it that sporty look. Its imposing radiator grille, adorned with the now-famous ram head and its headlights that contour the sides of the body panels, its chromed bumper with fog lights, all contribute to giving it that bold look.
Its long cargo box, height and large tires are but a few components that show that the Heavy Duty Ram 2500 is a working truck. Much more rigid than the Ram 1500 with its additional 900 kg and a 1,500 kg higher towing capacity, those numbers are nothing to sneeze at.
A look at the interior
Once inside, using the side steps and grip handles (the vehicle being quite high), we find ourselves in a very spacious and comfortable cab interior. We certainly don’t get the impression that we’re in a heavy-duty truck. The dashboard is well organized and the various equipment is user-friendiy. The choice of material is top notch, the trim is high-end.
Heating/cooling leather trim seats are firm yet comfortable, front and rear. Storage spaces and cupholders are available all around. Passenger comfort is really becoming a truly important factor, especially for this type of vehicle where, technically, its passengers spend a lot of time at work.
The long cargo box is quite handy for someone hauling material on a daily basis, however you’ve got to be in shape to access it while handling cargo.
And on the road
It’s pleasant to drive and comfortable for all passengers, even after many kilometres on the road. Acceleration is good for a vehicle of its size, with a 4L, 24-valve V6 engine, producing up to 270 hp at 5,600 rpm.
Surprising performances for this V6 engine, much more economical than the V8 which is no longer available. When will we see a diesel engine, which can be found on South American models?
We must nevertheless acknowledge its towing capacity and its ability to hold its own on rugged roads and trails, thanks to its permanent 4WD system.
Conclusion:
At the wheel, our first impression is, will I be able to squeeze through everywhere? The answer is yes, except in very tight spaces; but on normal roads, you’ll encounter no problems, although you’ll have the feeling you’re driving a monster on the road. But this feeling goes away quickly after a few minutes driving. However, you must remain attentive, for the vehicle is truly high, a little wide and particularly long. Choose you parking space wisely.
Its ride quality stands out on the open road. But as soon as you’re on bumpy roads, you’ll quickly discover the true meaning of the words ‘Heavy Duty’ seen on the side panels. You’ll feel every bump, slowing down at the approach of an obstacle in order to avoid being tossed around. However, to go over obstacles, the Heavy Duty 2500 is quite exceptional.
Conclusion:
With its ever-elegant design and its suspension improvements (stiffeners allowing it to work even harder), the Ram 2500 only gets better with time. In its category , it pulls its own weight.
Vehicles such as the Mercedes Sprinter, the GMC Savana, or even the all-new Transit Connect from Ford, are ever popular, all specific to various functions.
