Tuesday, June 15, 2010 Two armoured vehicles for Hydro-Quebec
 Hydro-Quebec purchased two light armoured vehicles to reinforce security at its nuclear plant Gentilly 2, in Becancour. The two vehicles are scheduled to start patrolling the grounds in the upcoming weeks.
These versatile armoured vehicles, manufactured by the American company: Oshkosh Defense, are built on a commercial Ford F-550 chassis, allowing for rapid manufacturing and customization of the armour system to meet the needs of the mission.
The vehicle is 5 meters long, more than two meters wide and more than two meters in height. The SandCat can seat four to eight passengers, depending which of the two possible configurations is used. It is fitted with dual fuel tanks with a total capacity of 120l.
The average vehicle weight is of 8,845kg and can reach speeds up to 120km/h. The SandCat is fitted with a 6.4l Ford diesel engine generating 325 hp at 3,000 rpm and with an Allison 2000 series automatic transmission and has a two-speed electronic transfer case. The engine complies with Nato emission regulations and has a power-to-weight ratio of more than 36hp/t.
