Thursday, August 25, 2011 Toronto's newest Leafs are now on the grid with AutoShare
AutoShare is expanding its Plug-In Electric Vehicle (EV) program. A month after AutoShare became the first car sharing company in Canada to introduce 100% electric vehicles (with the Mitsubishi iMiev) it's now adding Nissan Leafs to its growing EV fleet.
These are the first Leafs delivered in Toronto. AutoShare has been working with a number of companies to install a network of charging stations for this project in Toronto, including Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC), Toronto Hydro, Brookfield Place, King and John Festival Corporation, and Toronto Atmospheric Fund's FleetWise EV300 initiative.
The Nissan Leafs will take their place on the grid in Toronto's downtown core at Brookfield Place and at TIFF Bell Lightbox Building (King and John Festival Corporation) respectively. The EVs will be part of AutoShare's weekly "Electric Sunday Test Drive" program at Evergreen Brickworks, which has been open to the public Sunday's throughout the summer.
Last week, Quebec's cars sharing organization and fellow CarSharing Association member, Communauto announced the addition of 15 Nissan Leafs in Montreal and Quebec City, "We are pioneers ... in a new era of transportation," Communauto president Benoît Robert said in an interview. "And our project makes electric vehicles accessible to thousands of people."
