The Government of Canada Endorses ESC

Transport Canada proposes a new safety regulation requiring automakers to install Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as standard equipment on all passenger vehicles sold in Canada, beginning September 2011. ESC is designed to assist drivers in maintaining control of their vehicle during emergency maneuvers. The proposed regulation was published in the Canada Gazette, Part I on March 14, 2009. A 75-day response period follows, where interested parties may provide their comments to Transport Canada. (FC)
