Tuesday, April 21, 2009 SEMA Says NO to “Cash for Clunkers”
In a two-page fact sheet the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) sent to the American Members of Congress, the performance and modifications oriented organisation wants to prove that vehicle scrappage or “Cash for Clunkers” programs will only create more economical and environmental problems for North America. It also mentions that the European Federation for Transport and the Environment is asking Germany and other countries to abandon scrappage subsidies since they create environmental problems in accelerating the lifecycle of a car. Instead, the association urges the Congress to institute cash incentives for people who want to buy new fuel-efficient vehicles or to upgrade, repair, and maintain their older vehicles. (ED)
