Monday, July 13, 2009 Nissan to Build EVs and Batteries in North America
 According to Japanese daily business paper Nikkei, Nissan Motor Co. is planning to begin the production of electric vehicles and their batteries in the United States by taking advantage of the low-interest loans for green vehicles in that country. The new electric-car assembly lines would be built at Nissan’s Smyrna, Tennessee plant, a facility that should be able of making 50,000 to 100,000 eco-friendly vehicles a year by 2012. Nissan also intends to build high-capacity lithium ion batteries at the same site with NEC Corp. Already, Nissan intends to assemble up to 50,000 electric cars a year in Japan starting fall 2010.
