Lincoln has confirmed production of the MKT, a premium three-row luxury crossover based on a concept vehicle shown at the Detroit Auto Show in January. The new model will be built at Ford’s assembly plant in Oakville, Ontario.
“The Lincoln MKT reinforces our commitment to further expand North America’s fastest-growing luxury brand, providing an all-new vehicle to the showroom that’s been crafted and honed for a new kind of customer,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s president of The Americas.
Scheduled for introduction in 2009, the MKT will offer two engines, including the company’s new EcoBoost 3.5-litre V6, which uses turbocharged direct injection technology to deliver the fuel economy of a V6 with the performance feel of a V8, and with 15% improved emissions over larger-displacement engines.
The MKT will also offer the company’s new Blind Spot Monitoring and Cross Traffic Alert System, which warns drivers of impending traffic when backing out of a parking spot.
