Hydro-Quebec Teams Up With Ford for Electric Cars

Hydro-Quebec, Quebec’s utility giant, has teamed up with Ford in a program to evaluate rechargeable hybrid vehicles. Hydro-Quebec will be using a rechargeable Ford Escape Hybrid featuring a lithium-ion battery that uses a standard domestic 120 volt house plug to recharge. This battery allows the vehicle to run up to 48 km with a full charge, meaning a 2L/100 km fuel consumption in city driving. When the battery is emptied, the regular gas-powered engine kicks in. Hydro-Quebec is the only public utility service to get such an Escape in Canada. (ED)
