High-Voltage Hype?

Thinking of adding one of those fancy new plug-in vehicles to your fleet? According to well-known auto industry analyst, Dennis DesRosiers, you have to put the hype surrounding plug-in vehicles in perspective when considering your options.

“Electric plug-in vehicles are being hyped for public relations and government relations reasons,” DesRosiers says. “The reality is that we are decades away from having a significant alternate fuel industry in North America.”

Diesel, DesRosiers adds, is the immediate short-term winner, while the gas-electric hybrid will be more successful this decade than it was last decade. The plug-in electric - although a success from a technological, public relations and government relations point of view - will not sell in large numbers.
