Gas Prices Impact Vehicle Values

According the Manheim, there seems to be is a direct correlation between gas prices and vehicle value in Canada. As gas prices increased in the first half of 2008 in both Canada and the U.S., auction prices for less fuel-efficient SUVs and pickups dropped, while wholesale prices for compact units were steady, despite a challenging market. However, as gas prices began to lower in the second half of 2008, the free-fall of SUV values stopped and even climbed somewhat before stabilizing at the end of the fourth quarter. (FC)
