Funds for Fleets to Buy Cleaner Vehicles

The U.S. Government recently signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which includes significant funding for the reduction of diesel emissions and cities’ energy consumption, and for the transition of the federal fleets to cleaner vehicles. The Act allows $300 million for federal agencies to buy fleet vehicles with an improved overall fuel economy—at least 10% better, as per EPA’s criteria. The program makes fleets eligible for $20-30K or more toward the purchase of each new hybrid medium duty or heavy duty truck, and fleets may purchase multiple trucks. (FC)
