Dangers of Distracted Driving: AMA and CAA Launch Website

With the Alberta’s new distracted driving legislation in full effect, the Canadian Automobile Association and the Alberta Motor Association have partnered to launch a website http://distracteddriving.caa.ca to help educate all Albertans about the dangers of distracted driving.

The website uses a simulation engine to illustrate the potentially deadly consequences of taking your attention off the road. Users are put in the driver's seat as they select road conditions, speed and distractions. The simulation calculates the impact of the distraction in terms of the time and distance that a driver's attention is off the road, creating an infographic that brings the message home. An education section also provides statistics, tips and facts on distracted driving.

"There are no accidents when it comes to distracted driving, there are only collisions. A distraction can last only a moment, but the consequences last a lifetime," said Kurt Paterson, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, AMA Member Services. "With so many distractions behind the wheel, it's easy to become complacent. It's important that we all stay focused on the road.
