And Now, the Yaris Hybrid

Toyota has just announced that it plans to build a new small hybrid car to fight the inexpensive Insight that Honda is bringing in North America. The new small hybrid would likely be based on the actual Yaris and it seems it will carry a lithium-ion battery developed by Toyota itself (the nickel-metal hybrid battery used in the Prius is supplied by Panasonic EV Energy Co). Though no official date has been announced for the launch of the smaller hybrid Toyota, Japanese business newspaper Nikkei predicts it could arrive as early as 2011. (ED)
