Thursday, July 09, 2009 A New Saab Is Under Way
As you might know by now, Swedish automaker Saab has been sold by its former owner GM to Swedish supercar maker Koenigsegg. But he is not alone in the venture. There are at least two other investors, West Coast entrepreneur Mark Bishop and Norwegian holding company Eker Group. Nonetheless, Saab will still get some technical help from GM as it plans to build around 130,000 units a year. The company sold 93,000 cars in 2008. Among Saab’s projected products (once again based on GM architecture) is the replacement of the 9-5 sedan (a long-wheelbase version of the new Opel Insignia) and an all-new 9-4X crossover. Saab is also pondering the production of a hybrid vehicle with help from GM. (ED)
